ABOUT ME

Making stuff on the internet for 15 years.

Am I proficient in Microsoft Excel? Find out:

On the clock

I’m an AI-native, mission-driven designer with 15 years experience taking complex and ambiguous problems and turning them into real-world solutions for people and businesses.

My methodology is based on shaping decisions and leading through the work. While I consider myself a well-rounded and adaptable generalist I definitely have a few super powers. Namely:

I help teams and organizations achieve horizontal impact by identifying, designing and implementing principled, repeatable systems. I especially apply this skill to historically fragmented and complex problem areas and products.

While any designer is expected to navigate timelines and ambiguity I have done both as a matter of course under existential pressures (e.g. regulatory deadlines, legal actions, risk of off-platform harms) to platforms.

I set teams up for success by identifying efficiency gaps, defining, implementing and scaling ways of working that reduce the load of managing capacity, optimizing shared context and unlock AI-productivity gains.

I’m idealistic about the internet, and technology in general. While I find fulfillment in a wide variety of problems and subject matter I’m most passionate about work that advances online safety, protectes vulnerable communities, solves or mitigates negative societal effects of technology or increases access and equity.

Off the Clock

When I’m not working you can find me managing the lovely chaos of family life in southern California with my wife, two daughters and our satan-worshiping Chihuahua.

I also love playing hockey, cooking, video games, American folk music and occasionally getting so deep into a home DIY project that I question every decision I’ve ever made.

Origins

Though I’m based in southern California today, I originally hail from Pittsburgh Pa, a place you may have heard of but don’t know all that much about it. That’s okay. Here’s some fun facts...

The Rachel Carson Bridge in Pittsburgh with cherry blossoms in bloom

We’re home to the world’s most hideous accent. Just kidding its a thing of beauty.

Mr Rogers is from Pittsburgh and we’re really proud of that, so we built…err…this?

We’re so into bridges, when one started to fall apart we built another one under it to catch the pieces.

We famously invented the only salad on earth you can get a heart attack from.

We’re locked in an eternal blood feud with Philadelphia over which gas station has the best sandwiches…also hockey.

Basically every house in the city includes one of these bad boys and not one single person in history has ever known why.
